Ice and Snow on Public Sidewalks City Code 840.01. Ice and Snow on Public Sidewalks. Subdivision 1. ice and snow a nuisance. All snow and ice remaining upon public sidewalks is hereby declared to constitute a public nuisance and the owner of such property shall cause said nuisance to be abated within the time specified on a Notice of Snow Removal which shall be in the form of a red tag citing this section and affixed prominently to the premises. If the abutting property is without the central business district, such snow and ie shall be removed with in 24 hours after it has ceased to be deposited. If such snow or ice is in the central business district, it shall be removed by the hours of 8:30AM following the time when it ceased to be deposited. ....And that means? In residential areas, please shovel your sidewalk within 24 hours of ceased snowfall. If you are unable to physically shovel, or are out of town frequently during the winter months, it is a good idea to designate someone to perform this task for you. Commercial businesses should have the sidewalks shoveled by 8:30AM following the end of a snowfall. If property owners do not clear their sidewalk within the time frame allotted on the before mentioned Notice of Snow Removal, the City will perform the snow removal, and bill the property owner accordingly. Just a note, it would be friendlier on your wallet to hire the kid next door, if you are unable to clear the sidewalk yourself.
Thank you to the residents and business owners who regularly clear their sidewalks. Home | What's New? | About Kenyon | City Departments | Committees | Services | City Jobs
